Working Principle of 808nm Diode Laser Hair Removal Handpiece

The 808nm diode laser hair removal handpiece operates on the core principle of selective photothermolysis: it emits precise 808nm near-infrared laser light to target melanin in hair follicles, converting light energy into heat energy to permanently damage hair follicle stem cells. Meanwhile, contact cooling protects the epidermis, enabling safe and painless permanent hair removal.

1.Targeting Melanin

808nm laser light falls at the high absorption peak of melanin, allowing it to be preferentially and heavily absorbed by melanin granules in hair follicles (hair shaft, hair bulb, dermal papilla).

It is minimally absorbed by epidermal cells, hemoglobin and water, causing no damage to surrounding normal tissues.

2.Conversion of Light Energy to Heat Energy

After absorbing laser energy, melanin converts it into heat within a microsecond timescale, rapidly raising the local temperature of hair follicles to 60–75°C and above.

3.Thermal Damage to Hair Follicles

High temperatures cause coagulation and denaturation of follicular proteins, destroying the dermal papilla (blood supply) and bulge stem cells (regenerative capacity), resulting in permanent inactivation and loss of regenerative ability of hair follicles.
